Join American Forests and IKEA, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, and the National Park Service for a Tree Hugger Day celebration at the Jefferson Memorial from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, October 17th.
The National Capital Tree Hugger Day will be fun for the whole family, and feature music and entertainment by folk/bluegrass/blues duo Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, an appearance by the beloved Treeture Blossom, naturalist led tree walks, and an enormous Group Tree Hug around a grove of cherry trees along the Tidal Basin.
The celebration will include free gifts including historic trees for planting, beautiful tree guide books, free souvenir Tree Hugger portraits, eco-crafts for kids, and Tree Hugger t-shirt & button giveaways. Deborah Gangloff, Executive Director of American Forests, representatives from IKEA and the National Park Service, and Diana Mayhew, President of the National Cherry Blossom Festival will participate.
Los Angeles
Tree Hugger Day in Los Angeles is our only event organized by youth. Join American Forests, IKEA and Tree Musketeers for a Tree Hugger Day celebration at Memory Row, El Segundo, CA (Map Quest 300 W. Imperial Ave, El Segundo). This youth-organized event features an 11 a.m. ā noon group Tree Ring Photo, and picnic and games from noon to 1 p.m. ā bring a picnic lunch and join the gratitude ring photo around Marcie the Marvelous Tree! Come early at 9 a.m. for tree care. Sign up at volunteers@treemusketeers.org.
Chicago, Morton Arboretum
The Morton Arboretum has plans for a spectacular Tree Hug. Come be part of a giant community hug that begins 2-stories up on a platform that circles a giant sycamore. The human chain of Tree Huggers will then wind down a spiral staircase and radiate out through an enormous maze of gorgeous hedges.
The Morton Arboretum is a national treasure with trees and other plants from around the world for study, display, research, and propagation. Located 25 miles west of Chicago, The Morton Arboretum at 4100 Illinois Route 53 in Lisle, IL is just west of Interstate 355 and north of I-88 on Illinois Route 53 (sometimes known as Lincoln Avenue or Lincoln Highway).
